Local Government Week Oct 16-22

  • Ontario’s 444 municipalities are critical partners for our government. They have many responsibilities and provide essential services Ontarians rely on.
  • Municipalities help our government tackle complex issues – from building housing and supporting growth to reducing gridlock and improving transit networks.
  • This week is Local Government Week, which gives us an opportunity to reflect on these vital services and the responsibility that rests with local governments. It’s a time for us to celebrate the hard work that our 444 municipalities do, from everyday services like garbage collection and by-law enforcement to huge multi-year projects like building new roads and community housing.
  • We encourage everyone to use this week to learn about the ways to get involved with your local government, including attending town hall meetings, participating in a consultation, volunteering, or joining a committee.

Local governments play an important role in making Ontario the best place to live, work, and prosper. You can learn more about how Ontario and your municipality work together at https://www.ontario.ca/page/how-municipalities-and-ontario-work-together
